Product Description: Controls Play, Pause, Adjusts Volume, Skips Tracks, Navigates Playlists & Activates The Voiceover Feature With Any Headphones Or Stereo System On The Ipod Shuffle(R) 3G

This device does the job. However, the part that supplies the volume controls is extraordinarily fragile. Also, it is for volume control only and does not allow you to advance a song on your IPOD. I would not buy it unless I was desperate for a solution.

I originally bought the Belkin product Belkin Headphone Adapter with Remote for iPod Shuffle that this Scosche product is also designed for -- to correct the stupid design error on the 4th generation iPod Shuffle. And I gave it a good review a few days after I'd started using it. But just recently the Belkin control segment fell apart. As far as I know I had not been unduly rough with it or accidentally knocked it around. But it simply fell apart.
So, taking a chance, I ordered this product which was designed for the same purpose. It seems to be a bit more solidly made than the Belkin. And so far at least it has worked perfectly. It's been two weeks now and nothing untoward has happened to it. I will admit that I am babying it because I don't want the same thing to happen to it that happened to the Belkin.
So I can give it a qualified thumbs up.

This is a good product to allow regular headphones to be used with the IPOD shuffle 3rd generation.

I was very hopeful for this adapter. I've been waiting for it for several months so I could use my Shure headphones with the 3rd Gen shuffle. Belkin came to market first with their own adapter, but since it cost $30 I still waited for the Scosche unit, mainly because I pre-ordered it already and it was a significantly lower price.
I finally got the unit about a week ago. I used it approximately three times: first time just looking at it out of the box, and the following two times for approximately half an hour. At the end of my third use, the front panel of the controller fell off without any force, impact, or manhandling on my part. I put the panel back on and it partially snapped back into place, but it was pretty much a lost cause since it kept falling off after being touched once or twice. The same happened to S. Hendricks, who commented on this problem in another user's 5-star review. I will upload a picture of the broken device at the conclusion of this review so you can take a look for yourself.
So here I am, still waiting for a decent adapter. Of course, Belkin's adapter is now out of stock, so I can't even order that one. It sucks that Apple made people buy an external adapter if they wanted to use a good pair of headphones, but it's even worse that a company can't their act together after announcing the adapter six months ago.
Aside from that (major) flaw, everything else about the adapter worked fine. It felt cheap when being held, but it raised/lowered volume and skipped/paused songs like a champ. As far as I could tell, it did not degrade the quality of the sound, and it was small and flexible enough so I could put it in my headphone carrying case. I would have kept it for a long time if it didn't fall apart in my hands.

Most important: I am grateful to Scosche for producing this product so I can finally use the latest generation ipod shuffle with my favorites earphones (Westone)!
Pros
Sonically transparent
Easy to use once you learn the commands
Small
Does not increase size of the shuffle itself
Cons
Makes the earphone wire longer, and it's a little bit awkward.
Also, I had a little trouble with it after it sat in my gym bag in a hot car all day. Not sure if this is a sign of quality control problems (it was not THAT hot!).
Overall highly recommended.
Be sure to check out Scosche Tapstick also.
