Gameplay
WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 will introduce a new Create-a-Superstar Mode, including a fresh look, all-new 3D parts and improved graphical quality, allowing players to create Superstars and Divas who are comparable in quality with their in-game WWE counterparts. Adding to the creative mix, a new Paint Tool will enable detailed creation of tattoos, logos and other unique designs, while a franchise-first Superstar Threads feature will let players create alternate ring gear for Superstars and Divas by customizing the colors of shirts, pants, face paint, elbow pads, boots and more. The game's Create-a-Finisher Mode will now let players create acrobatic and gravity-defying diving attacks from the top turnbuckle, as well as move their creations to new heights by adjusting the trajectory. In addition, the mode will deliver an extensive assortment of new moves from the front grapple position.

Taking creativity even further, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 will also mark the debut of the WWE Story Designer. In this new mode, players will embrace a directorial role to create and customize their own storylines and cut scenes, including the ability to select talent and scene locations, write their own dialogue, adjust camera angles, select from over 100 scene animations, determine talent emotions and much more. Players will also be able to construct each night's show card with matches, unique match stipulations, interference events and other story twists and turns.

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 is set to empower players with not only extensive creative freedom but the ability to share their gameplay experiences as well. For the first time in franchise history, the WWE Community Creations interface will enable players to upload their creations online, including created Superstars and Divas, story designs, finishing moves, entrance movies and highlight reels, and share them with others around the world. Players may also download created content via keyword search engine from other users for use both online and off-line. In addition, players will be able to tag their creations with search terms, as well as leave ratings, allowing for ease of use in searching the robust database for the most popular - or even the most obscure - created items.

Additional Gameplay Features
In addition to its extensive creative and online offerings, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 will include a number of key franchise updates. The WWE Training Facility will provide players with a franchise-first in-game tutorial, making it simple for both longtime fans and newcomers to get helpful gameplay tips and practice moves with their favorite Superstars and Divas. The game's Road to WrestleMania story-based mode, introduced last year to high acclaim by consumers and press alike, returns with interactive cut scenes showcased within six brand new storylines, including a Create-a-Superstar storyline and a Divas storyline. In addition, a robust talent roster will include more than 60 playable Superstars and Divas, many of whom will make their video game debut, as they represent the Raw, SmackDown and ECW brands. A high-profile soundtrack rounds out the gameplay experience, including "Still Unbroken," the new single from Lynyrd Skynyrd's upcoming album, God & Guns, as well as songs from artists such as Skillet, Sick Puppies, Adelita's Way and Trivium.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Buy used, DO NOT buy new
As a proud owner of SDvR 2007, I was skeptical of the new game. Being that I haven't bought another game in this series since then, I decided to buy the game pretty much based off of the new Create a Story mode.

Sad to say, I've found this game to be MAJORLY subpar, and MAJORLY flawed. I hope that they build on this, but if you have noticed the subtile sub-text of my first paragraph, you'll notice my restrain on hoping for THQ/Yukes to BUILD and IMPROVE on this game (They have a tendancy to flip-flop on KEEPING awesome game modes *coughGMMODEcough*).

1) The kept the damned "CAW building"
I.E.- I believe that they've started phasing out the Ulimited Attributes for CAWs in 2008. I've seen this as a HUGE mistake then, and now it is WORSE. They've tried to soften this up by allowing you to "build" your CAW's attributes in any time they're is a match. But there is a point where a developer must "give up the ghost" on an idea, and this is one of them.

This "building" becomes SO tedious that it does the OPPOSITE of what it was intended to do, it becomes disheartening as opposed to keeping you wanting to play the game more. Let's put it this way, if this made me want to go BACK to SDvR 2007, there is something wrong.

I know I would hear people saying that this doesn't bother them. But to me, time is important, I am in the military, and I only have so much time in the day to "unwind". If I have spend hour-upon-hour of trying to tediously "level" up my CAW, then I would rather NOT do that and stick to a game that would allow me to have some fun with it.

2) The Create a Story Mode and CAW modes are limited

Again, there is a problem when you want to REVERT to a previous title in a series, this is one of them.

They had LIMITED the CAW mode. They took out the Patterns that made me LOVE the 07 game. They've even gone as far as taking out CHOOSING how much your wrestler weights!

The patterns could be excused, as they redesigned the CAW mode and the CAW's look AMAZING and life-like. But to say that you can't have your guy weight 220 lbs WITHOUT choosing a body-type is ludacris!

The Create a Story mode is even MORE limited. They limit the amount of times you could input a CAW, and you have limited amounts of cut-scenes you could use. So, if you want to recreate a Rock/Stone Cold WM 17 blood fued, you will be GREATLY disapointed. I know this is the inital input of the Create a Story mode, and they would be WISE to keep it in the game (Or, better yet, bring back GM Mode and allow you to use this mode in it),so let's hope that they decide to WORK with an idea and BUILD on it as opposed to "rebuilding the wheel" like they tend to do.

3) Online issues

Where to start, I think I'll pick three main ones:

a) There is an AMAZING amount of lag in the online wrestling mode. Almost a minute long! This KILLS me wanting to play this mode

b) The online censor is WAY too strict. Like for your Create a Story, it will NOT let you upload your story for ANY word in the game it deems to be bad. I'm presuming that it's using key words and phrases, but it gets to a point where it becomes REDICULOUS. I created a story that didn't get uploaded, and there was NO cussing in the verbage. There's a point where something kills the want to create an original story, and this does it.

c) They decided to go the route of FNR4 with this. But they forgot one tiny thing... FNR4's CAW downloads you could modify the HELL out of the original.

You don't get this luxury in this game. As opposed to getting a guy whom you could costomize the look, attire, entrance, attributes, etc. You get a guy that is 300+ doing Lucha moves, who looks off, and who has the wrong entrance. This is doubly wrong when you can't give a guy like the classic Ric Flair/Sting/Bret Hart the attibutes he deserves.

4) Missing modes

THQ/Yukes KEEPS dropping the ball on this. They have a sweet mode in the game, then after a year, or two, it's inexplicibly gone.

For all of you expecting a revamped GM Mode, hate to break it to you. You might as well go back to 07, because it's not in this game.

If you were expecting a decent CAW journey through a Career mode of some sort. Take a number, it's no where in this game.

If you were expecting to fight for a created title online (Which COULD'VE been a HUGE perk for this game), hate to "burst your bubble" again. You CAN'T create a sweet looking title and fight for it in the laggy online world.

Heck, they even took out a PPV and Tournament Mode in this game.

Like I said, this game has MAJOR promise. But it's been 11 years with this developer/producer combo, and everytime they seem to be progressing, they shoot themselves in the foot the next year.
You have nicely revamped ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Best SvR game ever
This is the best SvR game I've ever played so far. This game can be so much better if: there's less glitches in game, A lot of limitations on the online community and in game, half-decent manual control target, features taken out again, limited editing options for CAS from online and in-game superstars, lack of support from developers (updates so far), etc. Even with all these faults, the gameplay is better, they added a lot of the little things that made the gameplay more better. RTWM is fun and entertaining, Create-A-Storyline is tons of fun, and tons of others. I'd like to give it a 3.5, but cannot give it 4 stars. Still is a great game IMO. Worth $60 for wrestling fans like me, but not worth it for other gamers.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Smackdown vs Raw
Lots of fun. I spend hours on the weekend playing family & friends. I would of given this game a 5 but the graphics still leave a little to be desired.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Strange Limitations
I happen to own a bunch of the Smackdowns already and had no plans of picking this one up...UNTIL I found out about the story editor mode. Then I decided to buy it and give the newest smackdown a chance.

Let me say, that while the story editor leaves a lot to be desired, it could be great. Emphasis on COULD be. Unfortunately there's a bizzare limitation they added that makes no sense at all. For some reason, you can only use your created characters up to 10 times in the full year story you have. Matches and scenarios count the same, and so if you have half of your story be scenarios, that means you can have a maximum of 5 matches with 5 scenes....for the whole year. Or worst yet, if you include 2 guys you created, that counts as 2 scenarios or matches per scenario.

This is a bizarre limitation since it wouldn't hurt the game performance to allow you to use whoever you want. I have no clue why the developers of this game would want to add such a severe limitation to a great idea. Since I got this game to develop my own characters through stories, I am frustrated and disappointed with this limitation that takes an otherwise cool idea and limits it to pointlessness.

The story editor already has its setbacks, but this is the killer. So I think I'm going to go ahead and take this game back, since the gameplay isn't improved enough from last year to be worth the high price if I'm not going to use the story editor. I'm hoping that maybe they'll make a patch to fix this problem or increase the limit on a future DLC package. If they did that, I would buy this game again. Until then, I might as well just play Smackdown 2008's GM mode, which doesn't make such an insane limit on how you use your created wrestlers.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - The Best Wrestling Game Yet For The Next Gen Systems
This game is DEFINTELY better than it has been for the last 2 years (ever since the game spilled completely into the next generation systems). I love the creative potential the game has. You can create superstars (and give them about 4 separate attires per created superstar), change the attire color for the existing superstars (about 3 additional attires per superstar, create your own storyline (& post it online), create highlight reel (& post it online, just like last year), create a flying finisher (in addition to the standing one), and create a rivalry among superstars (if interference is on, that rival or friend can interfere). There is so much you can do with all those options. I can't wait to see want downloadable content THQ will release for this game.
