I purchased the "Deluxe Double." It worked well for 14 months--it was covered by a 12 month warranty. At that time the lock release activated by the keypad quit working. The keypad could not be used and it could only be opened with the key. The company said they would not repair the unit and offered to replace it for $80 plus shipping cost. They said they no longer service old units (14 months old?). For the price of this unit I expected it to last much longer. The company does not stand behind their product. The original batteries lasted longer than the safe.

I have had this safe for several years and it was always plagued with poor battery life so I was using the keys to open it.
When I contacted the company about my now out-of-warranty safe, I was told that the battery life...using Dura-Cells....was 2 to 3 months with opening the safe once a day.
I responded that a max of 90 openings of a safe was completely unacceptable especially in view of the fact that the battery pack is hard to access and the volatile memory then requires re-programming each time.
This safe could be made more useful if I outboard a power supply with a 'Wall-Wart' after drilling a hole in the back to run the power leads out.
I also found that the little finger button was hard to press down as I don't have much strength in that finger so I had to create an opening sequence eliminating that finger.
I have looked at other safes and the newer biometric "Fingerprint" types. They claim much longer battery life, easier replacement and non-volatile memory.
I cannot recommend Gun Vault.

After reading reviews on several different types of gun vaults, I decided to purchase this model.
PROS:
Compact, relatively light weight, solid construction, easy to use combination keys (I can see difficulty if you use three or four finger combination codes), backup key, and A/C ability.
CONS:
As noted in several reviews the location of the battery "compartment" is VERY poorly designed. You need to pull the top layer of insulation away from the top of the vault to access the thumb screws, which is the easy part. The more difficult part is trying to blindy re-insert the compartment with limited space and no light. Luckily the batteries are supposed to last approximately one year.
There is a motion detector and alarm on this unit, which is not automatically set but can be set with a key combination. The motion sensor works very well, but I could not get the alarm to deactivate using my code so it kept going off over and over until I finally just removed the batteries and reset the unit settings. Great idea, but doesn't seem to work all that well.
BOTTOM LINE:
This unit does exactly what it is supposed to do - keep a handgun away from people who shouldn't touch it, while allowing fast access if the handgun is needed for protection. I am 100% confident my 5-year old couldn't get into it even if he were able to mess around with it all day alone. That makes it worth every penny. This unit has a system that is both easy to use (in light or dark) and works quickly. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is the battery compartment, which should have been designed better than it was.

I have owned this safe since 2003. It has been a fantastic carrier and safe. It is well padded so it works to transport the weapon while moving or taking it to the range if your REALLY want it secure. The deluxe has some really nice features I like; motion sensor alarm, keystroke audio disable, and a convienece light in the safe when you first open. Although I wouldn't recommend this, I changed my batteries for the first time this morning since 2003. The batteries were working to open the safe fine, but the internal light was finally getting weak. This is well worth the cost. If you have kids, this is absoulutely essential.

The GunVault was everything I expected. It works exactly as I anticipated, and is very easy to use. After thoroughly reading about the units I selected the "Deluxe" version and I am glad that I did. The alarm features and light are nice, but it is the DC power adapter that has made the deluxe version the unit for me (plug it in the wall and the batteries become a backup). What else can I say? This unit does exactly what it is supposed to do, and does it for a very reasonable price. I plan to purchase the large Deluxe version next.
