![]() Rating: - Yes Another Monkey IslandMonkey Island aren't the best adventure games out there, but they are fun. If you have played them before this is more of the same. So if you liked it before, buy it. Elaine, Le Chuck and Vodo Lady are all there along with assorted new characters. I liked the ability to buy this game in pieces as downloads. Whenever you buy a game you run the risk of it not working on your computer. This game also has a free preview which will let you know if it is going to work before you give up your hard earned money. It also gives you a chance to try out the controls of the game. I've stopped playing games just because it was such a pain to move the characters around. With this game you can use your mouse or arrow keys. I found that most of the time the arrow keys work best. They seem to be a little quirkey though in that the arrow doesn't always seem to move Guybrush the way it is pointing. You may have to try a different arrow. If you are in an area with a lot of turns just click on Guybrush and hold down the left mouse button. He will be encircled and an arrow points in the direction of movement. You can then just drag your mouse to cause him to move. Be aware that in some cases asking a character to do something VS handing him the article to do it with may produce different results. There are walkthroughs on the internet should you come to one of those sticking points where nothing works but for the most part you won't need them. Rating: - Witty, funny, not too difficultTales of Monkey Island is a great game that follows the spirit of the Monkey Island franchise. I personally consider it at the level of the first 2 (the 3rd and the 4th were kind of weak). You go around impersonating Guybrush Threepwood, "mighty" pirate, gathering objects and figuring out puzzles to get him out of the most bizarre situation. It's a comedy, and the humor is witty and contains no foul language. The puzzles are not too difficult, and if you get stuck, there are hints you can turn on (I never need to do that). Saving is automatic, and by design you cannot do anything "wrong" that would make the game not solvable. Rating: - If you like Original DOS versions...U gonna LUV this!!I know many people have said this already...but if you like the clevor lil tricks n mixups from the first DOS versions of this game...U R GONA LUV THIS!!!! My first 20 minutes impression of the game was kinda lame and the controls are a lil funky at times...but after bout n hour once i got into everything, it was definately like old times with better updated Graphics n Such!!! The puzzles are great, start off easy but get tantelizing and almost to the point to where you wanna quit!!! The humor is great, gets old from time to time once you get stuck, but still funny!!! Once you figure sum small lil thing out and the game goes on forward again, YOU HAVE SO MUCH FUN!!!! Can't wait for the next episodes to come out!!! ----------------------------------------------------- As far as a load on the puter as other ppl mentioned, I run this game at 1600x1200 MAXED easily on my ASUS A8N32-SLI MotherBoard, but i am pretty much spec'd out for features it can handle at: AMD Athlon 4600X2 - 2.4ghz x2 512kb CACHE (OC'd 2.6ghz) 4gb CORSAIR XMS DDR3200 (OC'd 432mhz) 2x SLi 9800GT BFG OCX 512mb (OC'd 680mhz Core/1674mhz Shader/2000mhz Mem vs 600mhz Core/1500mhz Shader/1800mhz Mem) Windows XP Pro SP2 and Vista Ultimate DUALBOOT....runs sweet on either, no visible difference in quality between DX9 and DX10!! ................... I even have it on my MSI 945GCM478-L MoBo, P4 3.2ghz/1mb CACHE Prescott 478, 4gb DDR2, 8800GT 1gb and it RUNS AWSUM!!!! :) ................... Both decent gaming rigs obviously...but definately not the newest stuff out thur!!!! Rating: - Avast! A tip here for slow gamesGreat game, but this review is really to give a tip for folks with slow games. I have a relatively new laptop (Feb 09) with a DuoCore2 6400@ 2.00 ghz and was having the slow problems. The ship intro was nearly (or nigh, for you pirates) making me literally sea-sick because of the delayed motion. I fixed the problem by going into game settings and lowering both the quality of picture and the resolution (don't know if both are necessary). After I did that, the game moved at normal pace and was fun to play. If you don't already have a top of the line video card, I doubt that you are the type that will care about the difference in the visuals. As far as the game itself, it comes complete with the monkey-heavy mayhem and cute (and/or frustrating) puzzles. My only complaint is that it was relatively short, but I appreciate that this is just a "chapter" of the whole game. I still think it could have used at least one or two more puzzles. And more PIRATES and GROG. Argghh, matey! Rating: - Too laggy for my computerIts hard to give this a real review because it is just too laggy for me. I do meet the requirements for download, but just barely in the video and sound area. This looks like an interesting game, but it takes me forever to move the guy and even longer to click on anything. |
