On the road in Cairo

After getting off the plane, we met our guide Walid inside the airport. It look a long time to get our luggage. Many of the Egyptian passengers on plane had many huge suitcases - bigger than any suitcase we had ever seen in our lives. It took a long time for the large crowd of passengers and porters to get all of the bags. One of our bags came out very late, making us a little nervous.

At this point, we got onto the bus, and traffic was terrible. It was 2:30pm in Cairo during Ramadan, which is rush hour. Added to that, some roads were closed due to a speech being made by President Mubarak. It took us two hours - instead of the usual 40 minutes - to get across the city to our hotel in Giza. In Egypt, the driver do not signal, except with their horns and hands. During the drive, we saw a variety of sights in the city, including Mosques, buildings, stores, and the "city of the dead" - a huge cemetary filled with mausoleums.
