GG says thanks for the feedback on Austin.

Hey everybody, I just wanted to duck in and say a few things. Near the tail end of the Austin update, I asked people to send positive or negative feedback to webmaster [at] google.com with the keyword austinupdate. I read all the emails I found with that keyword, and I just wanted to say thanks for the feedback. I was glad to read emails from Greece to Staten Island to Bulgaria. Some people liked Austin. One person said "I really shouldn't be ranking this high on this particular term," which was the first time I remember ever hearing that; it gave me even more respect for that WebmasterWorld member. Another said that Austin had blown it in his opinion--but didn't give me any searches to check out. But almost all of the feedback was either positive or constructive. I enjoyed reading about everything from insurance to a stale domain for a porn search to crowding on a result set.

So mainly I just wanted to say thanks. Feedback helps us see what we're doing well and helps us find the cases where we can make improvements. We're going to keep working on improving core quality for users--we want webmasters with good sites to do well in our results, and we want to keep spam (keyword stuffing, doorway pages, etc.) to a minimum. Thanks for the feedback that helps make that happen. We've been working hard behind the scenes, and I'm pretty excited about some of the quality projects we've got going, but I'm also grateful that folks are happy (eager?) to tell us what they think Google could do better.
