Google Book Search - Beta

Importance: High

Google has launched a beta book search feature. It seems to return book excerpts with links to booksellers. Perhaps this is in response to Amazon's new "search inside the book" feature. Here is an example.

Update: Here is a Google FAQ on the subject (thanks for the pointer, Chris)

"The Googlers seem to be hard at work."

Seems like a lot of projects are bearing fruit lately, from stemming/plurals/synonyms to definitions to the deskbar to geosearch to the ability to type packages and similar things into the search box. Sometimes changes are more visible, sometimes they're less visible, but we're always thinking about how to make search better for the user..

Perhaps Google should focus on sorting out the crap results which are returned post-Florida instead.

Oops, sorry, I forgot. They MEAN'T to make commercial search returns crap, so that people will click on Adwords instead.

You're on the way down Google, and you've brought it all on yourself through pre-IPO greed.

Like many of googles features it looks to be usseful in determining if something has been in print/published etc.. it would be nice if the book was "actually" online as well via the link, pdf source etc.. That in addition to referencing online books as well which are not normally published offline however are still rather large as to be considered a book rather then a article. Further more classification of each type of book that is sci fi technicle much like a directory in a library. Over the long term this will enable the whole of human resource to be catalouged and standardized for easy referencing and AI systems. Although when I tried google as the keyword the results were very odd.
