GG says Google can block IP addresses.
GoogleGuy Says: [ Link to quote] We can do it, but we prefer not to. Virtual hosting means that innocent sites and spam sites can be on the same Class C block--or even on the same IP address. Besides, it's not so hard for a NastyJerk to move to a different hosting company. So in general we avoid this.

Right. What is this obsession with blocking IP addresses? is it a n00bish attempt to get someone else you know of blocked, or is it just general incompetence and n00bdom? |

To change your dynamic IP address (like those with attbi and comcast) in Windows XP (in less than 60 seconds without additional software):
take note of your ip address beforehand to verify your changes. (if you can't figure out how to do that, you probably shouldn't do this.)
First, at the command prompt, (start, run, command) type:
ipconfig /release (then enter, of course)
you can type EXIT at this point
(just renewing it doesn't do it)
Go to your tcp/ip properties (right click on my network places, select 'properties' from the list)
go to the properties of the local area connection (again, right click, properties)
double-click on internet protocol tcp/ip.
(you should be at tcp/ip properties at this point. you'll be back here in less than a minute so remember where it is.)
under the "general" tab, select the radio button that says "use the following ip address"
in the ip address field, use a "undefined" (and thus, unused) ip address (such as 10.1.1.1) by mouse-clicking into each field and entering the corresponding number. below that is the gateway and by default, if you hit TAB, it will fill with 255.0.0.0. if not, do so.
click okay, then okay again on the aforementioned local areas connections properties. this will put you back into the network connections folder. from here, start again, getting back to tcp/ip properties (don't remember? follow the steps above). this time, select "obtain ip address automatically". Click okay, then okay again. after you've verified that the address has been changed (double click on your local area connection icon and look at the support tab), feel free to close the network connections folder.
Poof! your ip address has changed and you can log back on to that banned game room (or whatever).
Remember, this doesn't protect you from being tracked by those that have the resources to do so. your network card has a unique id (MAC Address) that your ISP has tied to each ip address you use with their service.
i'm just running this off by memory, so feel free to offer any corrections. should be fine... i've done it bunches. hit me with any "fixes".

Alright people, If you are simply trying to get into a website that has banned you.. Just use a proxy. To do so:
using Internet Explorer:
Click the "Tools" at the top, click "internet Options"
Under the "connections" tab, click the "LAN settings..." button. Under this window, Put a check mark in the box labeled
"Use a proxy server for your LAN"
In the Address, put this:
24.121.43.113
and in the port, put this:
80
Click "ok", and "ok" again to verfiy. Your browser will run a little slower, since this is a proxy, but if you need to get into a site that you have been banned from, this is a guaranteed way of doing that.
Note: There are THOUSANDS of free proxy servers out there. Just google "Free web proxies" and browse through all of the ones you find. Some are faster than others, just try them out at your own rate.
Enjoy :D |

If I believe someone to be sending me an email under false pretenses through a gmail account, is their any way to trace where the email is actually coming from?
I'm 99% sure it is not spam email, but from an individual's home computer. |

I'm looking for something else...
I live with roommates who like to go to some of the sites I do. I have a problem of being extremely blunt to Administrators who have corrupt policies, and it ends up with me being Banned, as well as every nickname and account with my name on it (only TalkCity, Delphiforums, and a few EZ Boards).
Unfortunately, my friends usually end up being on the wrong end of those bans, and the Administrators dont really give a damn that they are different people. They just go ahead and perform the ban anyway, and refuse to let my roommates back in.
I would like a way to let my friends continue going to boards even if I am banned, and under what might appear to be a whole 'nuther IP Address.
I have Comcast Cable Modem.
Any ideas? |

Alright, you guys are all very unprofessional, not stupid. I would be very pleased if someone on this forum would be kind enough to tell me how to block an IP through cmd prompt? I have some horrible virus problems, and im constantly seeing the same IP's when i do the netstat -an command. Help would be appreciated, especially help from people who DIDN'T hit Alt+F4 from that post.

My interest is not into getting into some site that has banned. My concern is that I have a VPS that I use for many websites I own> I do not spam but I sell web space to some others. If they do spammie tactics in creating there site does that hurt my ip for my whole vps and if so how can this be avoided.

First off, Its inpossible to unblock a mic block on yahoo, my sujetions, Make a new ID.
Secondly some of you are having Virus problems, I recomend Bit Defender for that, Also Protection of hackers.
Next, there are some of you asking idiotic questions, i recomend www.googleityoumoron.com

Okay, people, I tried the whole changing the proxy thing, but when I do that, my internet pages won't load. I have wireless. I also use Firefox. Is there any way to block my IP from firefox? Everytime I go to www.howardforums.com it says my IP has been blocked. On IE and Firefox. Is there any other free solutions and or hacks? How do I block it on firefox? Thanks! |

well.. This forum seems to have alot of people asking the same question over and over again. "how can i block my ip address" and, you probally don't really want your ip address blocked. blocking an ip address means me being a website admin puts ur ip on block for my website and you can't get on my webserver then. If someone is trying to connect to your computer thru your ip there is a couple things that you can do; first off get a good firewall, and maybe an IP hider, and running thru a proxy server might help too. First, the firewalls attempt to keep people out of your computer if they already know your ip address. secondly the ip hiders are made to try and attempt to hide what your ip address actually is, and lastly i mentioned the proxy server.. what it is is like this YOUR PC------->PROXY SERVER------->WEBSITE or other personal computer.. what does it do? you connect to the proxy server then u go to a website, the website sees the address of the PROXY server not your ip. same goes for connecting on p2p file sharing networks, they see the proxy server's ip and not your ip address. And just to let you know on yahoo and many instant messaging software, if you do file shares they are p2p meaning if you do a file share and the other user knows what to look for with the right tools or dos commands he can get your ip, if you also allow someone to view or show your cam to anyone this also applys.. If you have any questions please feel free to stop by my website and hit us up with questions www.sp1r1ts-0f-pr0ph3cy.net helping expand your knowledge helps keep you safe.
