For some time, webmasters have reported a problem of missing index pages, in which sub pages were ranking higher in cases where a site's home page should be ranked higher. An common example is searching for a site's title. (Actually I am seeing this right now when searching for the title of this site. The "low importance" page is currently the highest ranking page from this site in the SERPs that I see.)
After receiving some reports, GoogleGuy says that Google engineers have identified as potential issue that may be causing this.

Hey, I saw that people were looking for an update, so let me post what I've found out so far. First off, thanks to the people who sent a report with "indexpage" in it. Sometimes having more than one report makes it easier to investigate, so I appreciate the feedback. I was talking to another engineer earlier today and they did identify a potential issue that could have affected some of the reports. We have a binary-code push scheduled pretty soon (hopefully later tonight) for it. I'll keep you posted if I find out more.
