GoogleGuy Says

Importance: High
This is interesting. As GG continues to highlight the fact the PR updates are now just "display" updates, he uses the term "everyday occurence" with respect to PR updates. While it is well known that actual PR updates happen much more frequent than in the past, this is first time GoogleGuy has hinted that PR may actually be updated daily (or perhaps, in near-realtime?)
GoogleGuy Says: [ Link to quote] Good questions, jbgilbert. All I was trying to get across was that we have better updates of PR and links (including a comprehensive list) in-house at Google, so I personally don't pay as much attention to when we export new externally visible links or PR. So for me, it's just an everyday occurrence--but I understand why everyone else gets excited. :)
BTW, this seems like a good quiet time to remind people that if you're obsessively hardwiring IP addresses in your hosts file in order to check what a PageRank display says: don't forget that there are other search engines out there. Spend some time looking at rankings on other engines as well (the old "don't put all your eggs in one basket" theme). All that time spent on backlink/PR checking would also pay off by spending that time looking at how other search engines score pages. :)

Thats easy for you to say this.
With no work I get my new pages indexed by google in a Monthly or weekly cycle.
A few month ago my pages didn't showed up in google anymore.
In this 2 month I was losing 85% of my daily traffic.
So even if would realy focus on other search engines they can not bring me so much traffic as google. |

I guess GoogleGuy is partly right, although the fact is that other search engines dont have a PR system, therefore Google is used a lot as a benchmark for how you might be doing in ALL the search engines.
Axel there are many reasons for that happening, post some more detail - I'm sure someone can help. |

Actually it seems like I now have a more steady PR5 rank, while it usually went from PR5 to PR4 and back again.
This happened after I took Google Adsense away from my pages...
I also increased my sales dramatically by only promoting my top selling products.
Best regards,
Tor

The reality is it is impossible to do any meaningful real time or near real time updates and also crawl and index the number pages they do. It is misinformation by Google. It actually takes a significant period of time for Google to recalculate and adjust relative PR because it requires a huge number of iterations (really approximations). Since the nature of content is not static on the web and the linking topology is highly referential and in constant flux, Google is creating a mythology. The system does rough justice at best and it is merely a poor representation of the optimal state of "truth." |

To guy with backlink PR9, sometimes the page linking to our website is not relevant because the link doesn't looks natural, and you have diferent topics in both websites. |

For people asking something like "how many backlinks needed for pr5?". Remember, is not quantity is QUALITY |

The problem is most people are looking for the quantity rather than the quality. It's actually difficult to explain to some of our clients that the number is not everything and that you need high quality inbound links. |
