Google slow, or spyware infection?

Importance: Medium

GoogleGuy says that often times, when people say Google is slow or down, they actually have been infected by spyware.
GoogleGuy Says: [Link to quote]
spybot = spybot search and destroy. It's a program that detects nasty stuff you can catch from surfing the web. This nasty stuff is called spyware or scumware, and unless your Internet Explorer is battened down pretty well, this junk can make its way onto your system. Once there, it can add new links on the desktop, show pop-ups as you surf/search, modify web pages to add new links, etc. etc. Usually when people think that Google is slow or down, it turns out to be that they have an infected machine instead.

Got NAV, SpySubtract, and AdSubtract. Google searches are down to a crawl. Get "IE Not Responding" at the top of the page. Eventually the search results open. Suggestions? PLEASE? Using TEOMA in lieu of Google and no problems speedwise.

I am having the same problem with Google searches being very slow. I've used Spybot-Search and Destroy and I have Ad-Aware installed--there are no signs of infection, but I am not positive that there isn't one. I heard that software firewalls can slow things down--I have the XP software firewall up and running--but it might be some virus or spyware I haven't found yet. Please help!!

When performing web searches, either in google or yahoo, my results come up like 10 to 15 seconds later, but the results say that they were generated within a second or less. Something is slowing up the process. I've run ad-aware, spybot, but I'm still getting the same thing.

When I search on google I get a results page, then 1 second later a few more results pop onto the page at top forcing hte previous results lower. It is uaually a shopping.com link or RX meds. I'm sure it's some form of adware- how do i remove it.?

...and I thought I was going nuts! I'm having the same slow-receiving-results-page problems, both with Google & Yahoo (haven't tried other search tools yet). I've gotten rid of all spyware identified by SpyBot and other programs, but still no improvement.

I fixed the google slow problem!
Go to tools/internet options and in the address field for the start page type http://yahoo.com

It works great. When google fixes what ever is wrong then I will put it back.

I wonder ig Microsoft is making google run slow since they are in a heated war? :D

Stuart, when you're getting "IE Not Responding"
message while trying to access Google, that should be your first hint to dump IE and start using Mozilla Firefox.

I'm sitting in Vietnam behind the huge Hanoi Firewall.
Google sees all the requests coming from one IP. It then thinks this is virus activity...

Sux big time.

Hey, uncle Ho, switch off that firewall will you!
