Importance: High
A couple of people have inquired as to whether I have stopped reporting on GoogleGuy's comments altogether. I have not stopped, and I do intend to report any significant comments made by GoogleGuy.
The reason I have reported anything recently is because GoogleGuy has gone quiet. Though I may have missed some, I have only seen one comment from GoogleGuy during the month of May, and that was to tell a member that the best way to contact Google was to email support (though he did mention that he would pass the particular issue on to others internally). If anyone has seen any other GoogleGuy comments this month, let me know.
With the Google IPO annoucement, Google is now in the "Quiet Period". And it appears that GoogleGuy is also in the quiet period. Many, including myself, expected this to happen (especially after GoogleGuy asked me to be quite).
Just one year after this site was launched, GoogleGuy isn't saying anything (at least for now).

Question Mark? If the IPO is the cause for GG's silence, then why would that not also apply to AWA too?
Since AWA hit 1000 posts on May 3rd, he is up to 1,094 right now (just checked). That is over 30 posts per week in the last 3 weeks.
Seems to me that both would be silent, eh? |

That's a good question, Dodger.
The reason may be that GoogleGuy is more widely known, and he is at least perceived to be giving inside infomration regarding the core Google technology (indexing, rankings, spam filtering, etc.) AWA on the other hand, seems to provide Technical Support (which is probably AWA's job at Google) -- AWA never seems to delve into any gray area that might be preceived to be 'secret'. That's my take, anyway -- but I could be wrong. |

You are probably right Mark. Someone mentioned in a comment in John Battelle's post about the leak of the e-mail at Google over Blogger considering renewing support for RSS.
The big thing about it was that it was an internal email with Sergey's name on it. Somehow a CNET News.com reporter got a hold of it.
But the comment was made that they should be allowed to go about their business in this case. RSS is something of a techie trivial matter. |

Maybe one of his superiors caught on and told him to stop. |

N!kke - I think that had to be said at that time. Due to the nature (actually seriousness) of wide-spread ban on all of the sites that were engineered by a certain SEO agency coupled with the idle talk that this was going to happen to all sites using detection for the firing of a MouseOver Event in the element.
GoogleGuy was pretty much non-disclosive of actual details, but just enought to quell some fears over some of the speculation over this. It did turn out that several days later a class-action suit is being filed against this agency.
GG is now back in hiding. |

Thanks for the pointer, Roy.
I have been really busy, I think I may need some help tracking his messages and posting comments to this site. If anyone is interested in helping, drop me a line at googleguysays@markcarey.com. Thanks. |

I have heard that too. At one point I thought so, but not anymore. GG seems much closer to the technical and lower-level details such as spam reports, etc. |
