Linking Structure for Google

Importance: Medium

Google gives advise about linking structure. His point about using linking structure to tell Google which pages are the most important is a good one (translation: channelling PageRank where you need it most).

Or just add a default.asp page. :) Make it a site map. And make your "contact us" pages point to the site map too. In the site map, include links to the product pages.

Changing your link structure on your site is a great way to suggest to Googlebot which pages you think are the most important. If every one of your pages points to the "contact us" page, you can see where we'd crawl that earlier instead of later.

So I'd be thinking about how to take the visits you do get and how to try to guide them in the direction you want. Something to think about..

Interesting post, he is saying it is "okay" to manipulate internal pagerank.
Great job you a doing, Mark, keeping up with GG. Sometimes the threads are so long at WMW it can take a while just to find GG's post.

Alex, it isn't manipulating of internal PageRank. In fact, PageRank is the probability of coming to a particular page. Good webdesigners obviously want to make important pages more visible than another ones, so they link them more often.

It's just a matter of proper information architecture.
