Hey, good thread--thanks all for the comments. It's always tricky to find the right balance of power features that users can try vs. trying to do things automatically. Certainly things like tips can help to educate users, but the flip side is that in an ideal world, users wouldn't need much training or special syntax to find what they want. Rest assured that we'll keep looking for ways to make searches more powerful (and easier, too)!
