Importance: High

AdWordsAdvisor replies to an Australian member who asked about stopping the redirect to the Australian Google site.

AdWordsAdvisor Says: [Link to quote]

I have consulted with GoogleGuy on the 'redirection' question and he says that in the lower right (of your .au interface) there should be a link that says "Go to Google.com "

If you click there, it will change a setting in your cookie to turn off country redirects.

Thanks GG!

When I do a google search A warning comes up stating that another softwafare program is redirecting me to another search site. To fix the problem I am told to edit my host file in windows deleting all references to google, save and restart. The host file always comes back to the same settings and I cannot access google from the explorer toolbar or the URL window. I am blocked from access to the real google site. Any ideas. I recently went through a similar problem with coolwebsearch trojan software and used a patch to resolve it. This seems similar. I have used spybot and adware blocking software with no fix for this google problem.

Kevin, others have been having this problem too (also being discussed here and )

Some people have noted they have two seperate HOSTS files. This is the first time I have heard that the HOSTS reverted back. It seems like the scumware resets the HOSTS file on system startup (a smart but annoying hack). If spybot and adaware aren't finding it, I have to assume that this is a new piece of scumware that these apps don't know about yet...

I would be very interested in seeing a screen snap to the error page you are getting (the one that says software is redirecting you away from Google, etc.)

To fix Google and other search engine problems do the following.
Go to www.tomcoyote.com
Download Hijack this, save to desktop.
Run the scan.
From the resulting logfile tick all boxes starting with the code 01.
Go offline, then click Fix/Repair.
Job done !!
DO NOT tick any other boxes other than the one starting with 01.

Good Luck,
Sally Mcdonald

Hello All !!
I just got rid of a terrible piece of hijacking adware that redirected both google and yahoo to a mirror 61.51.something.618. All the results of whatever your search on are transferred to the second result page. On the first page only advertisements appear looking just like google results.
The solution here is to look a little longer than your nose (dutch saying). At the bottom of the first page, between the links there is an option 'remove adware', download this tool, close internet explorer and run it.

It took me a night of work with perfoming the most complex registery key modifications, booting in safe mode and much more of those terrible steps. When I showed it to a friend he found it in a minute. (Thanks Arthur !)
