Importance: Low

Yesterday, Google suddenly (without warning) started adding "related searches" to AdSense ad boxes - which take users to Google search results pages for "related" words and phrases. Publishers do not earn any money when users click on these links. This has caused quite a backlash in the forums, with many webmasters saying that they are quitting the AdSense program as a result.

(Coincidentally, I just started experimenting with AdSense on this site -- so you may see an example of the "related searches" in the ad box to the right)

Hey everyone, I think the idea behind related searches was to help provide more useful reasons to examine the advertising. If people start to realize that they can learn more about the page by looking for the ad box, I believe the thinking was that it could be good for publishers and surfers alike. I will definitely pass this feedback on though--thank you..

Does anyone know where Google has posted the info on Related searches on AdSense ads on their site?

Was there any kind of formal annoucement?
