Honk if they don't signal

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like more and more drivers on the roads are neglecting to signal when changing lanes or even when making turns. Sure, most the time it seems fairly innocent, if there are no cars around then what is the harm? Well, I'll tell you what the harm is. Sometimes there are cars or pedestrians around, and you don't realize it. And they are making decisions based on your actions. Bottom line is that somebody could get killed. The chances may be slim, but is it worth the risk? After all, it is such a difficult thing to do? Does it take a lot of physical or mental effort to move that little lever up or down an inch? There is no excuse for not signalling.

So do you know what I do? I honk at drivers who don't signal. Even if they aren't abruptly cutting me off, I honk. I encourage everyone to do the same. If we all start honking our horns when other fail to signal, these lazy and careless drivers will eventually get the message. If you help teach these drivers to use their turn signals, you might just save a life. So honk if they don't signal. Pass it on.

Thank you for taking the time to post your views on an issue that has been aggravating me for the past few years! OHMYGOSH, I hate when people don't signal. You are absolutely right in trying to inform others that when they signal, they are alerting those around them of their intentions. It's courteous and safety conscious. I liken not signalling to cutting in front of someone waiting in line, or walking between people and not saying "excuse me". Although I think that honking at those who don't signal might have a little bit of an impact on some of the offenders, most of the drivers who change lanes or turn without signalling probably wouldn't make the connection, and it might startle one of the more courteous drivers on the road. I have been entertaining ideas of fashioning a sign to flash at drivers who do not signal. Of course, what I want the sign to say and what is publicly acceptable are vastly different, so I have settled on a sign that says, simply, "USE YOUR SIGNAL, JERK!" for those who clearly are jerks, and "PLEASE USE YOUR SIGNAL" for those who just appear lazy or otherwise oblivious to the rest of the drivers sharing the road. I don't know if you are old enough to remember this, but back in the 70s (before I was old enough to drive), we had these great flip signs that drivers carried in their cars to say things to other drivers. Being that changing lanes without signalling is only one of my pet peeves, I'd like to create a flip sign that voices a variety of thoughts and feelings I'd like to share with my fellow road hogs. What do you think?
