After reaching the dock, we boarded a motorized canoe on the Tambopata river. The canoe is shaped like a normal canoe, yet it is wider and much, much, longer. My guess is that it is about 75 feet long and can hold about 30-40 people. The weight must be balance, with equal weight/people on each side. During the 45 minute ride up the river, we had some lunch, which was a cross between Chinese and Peruvian food -- a rice and veg mixture served wrapped in banana leaves. We also some jungle wildlife from the boat. We saw a (very small) caiman, which is a type of crocodile, and some canaberras. Canaberras are the largest rodents in the world, and look like massive groundhogs. They are good swimmers and jaguars are their main predator. Views from the boat included jungle on both sides, the odd thatched hut, and the muddy colored water.
