This is the best season of Seinfeld, better then all before and after. This is the first Seinfeld with an ark story (others include Kraimers cofey table book, and Georges engagment to Susan). This includes the emmy wininig Contest, the laugh winning Junior Mint, The favorite frase winning Outing, and my favorite, the Bubble Boy. This is the season that made it work, so watch it.
Rating: - Not that there's anything wrong with that
When Seinfeld went off the air, it was the most popular show on television, with millions of viewers tuning in each week just to see what happens in the lives of Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer. It was truly one of the greatest sitcoms of our generation.
And it was season four where the show really hit its stride and became the pop culture phenomenon that we know it as today.
The middle of season four saw NBC move Seinfeld to Thursday nights, the biggest night in television on every network. With Cheers set to leave the airwaves the following season, NBC executives were grooming the show to replace the venerable Cheers in the 9 p.m. time slot, a key to the whole Thursday night lineup.
And the move paid off. Seinfeld was pure gold in season four. Episodes that will always be remembered as classics happened in season four. The Contest, The Junior Mint, The Implants, the Smelly Car, The Handicapped Spot, The Bubble Boy. All of these episodes were fantastic and will go down in history as some of the greatest episodes of comedic television of the 1990s.
Where as Seinfeld was still growing in popularity at the start of the season, by the end, it was a full blown hit and NBC knew it, giving creators Seinfeld and Larry David more leeway to do a lot of things, particularly in The Contest episode, a full half-hour focusing on being "Master of My Domain."
To me, that episode is one of my favorite episodes of all time and I found myself cracking up as I sat in my apartment watching the hilarity ensue.
This season also follows Jerry (as himself) and George (Jason Alexander) as they go bring their television pilot through the paces at NBC. The network president falls in love with Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and leaves his post to work for Greenpeace to try and impress her, leaving the pilot to die on the network floor. Of course it is through the pilot that George meets Susan (Guest star Heidi Swedberg), his on again, off again girlfriend through a number of seasons, despite the hell that is having a relationship with George.
Elaine begins the year in Paris with her therapist boyfriend, but returns to her usual relationship drama, including a mistaken case of BO, brought on by a smelly valet who ruined Jerry's car.
Jerry and George continue to pitch, write and cast their pilot, but also have relationship dramas of their own. George of course, meets Susan, then kisses her in front of the NBC execs, getting her fired. Kramer (Michael Richards) burns down Susan's father's cabin eventually leading to a breakup and Susan's turn to lesbianism, which George is certain he caused. The two get back together again as the season closes.
Jerry dates his usual amount of woman, including guest stars Teri Hatcher (Desperate Housewives) and Jane Leeves (Frasier), but seems to find relationships ending rather unceremoniously, particularly in the case of Hatcher's character, who Elaine "Feels up" in the spa, proving that yes, they are real, and they're spectacular.
Kramer continues to be Kramer, the crazy guy next door, who seemingly doesn't work, mooches food off of Jerry and basically lives the perfect life. Some of his hair-brained schemes are actually quite impressive, but as a whole, the guy is a nut, which adds a perfect element to this amazing cast.
As was the case in the first three seasons, the sets for this season are quite well done, with commentaries from cast and crew on a number of episodes. There are inside looks at most of the episodes, with interesting tidbits from cast members and crew members. There are deleted scenes and a good gag reel, as well as exclusive stand-up footage from Jerry's act. There are also a bunch of promos that the cast recorded, touting Olympic coverage and their move to Thursday nights.
Season four was one to be remembered for Seinfeld, and if you are a fan, or even if you are not, this season is one that you surely don't want to miss.
Rating: - Worst CD case ever for the best show ever.
This is just plain lack of respect, for self and others. Why would you put jewels in some old box that used to hold your dad's greased hardware tools?
I would buy it even if they had no case at all but I think I deserve better. The contents are great, the extras are fun and adds a lot to the episodes. I love the menu layouts, they are allways a good surprise. But I can't stop wondering about how the best TV show ever ended up inside the worst CD cases ever?
Why people, why?!?!? To cut 3 bucks from the final price? C'mon!!!
I just hope they go back the original casing from the first sets.

There was no greater show on television than Seinfeld and the 4th Season was when the really good episodes started. It was also when they started shooting episodes away from the traditional sets of Jerry's Apartment and Monk's Café. A lot of shows are funny or entertaining when you first watch them but a true test of how great they are is when you still find them so when watching those episodes over and over again. Most movies or TV shows I see no point to buying as I'll only watch them once or twice but Seinfeld you just watch over and over again waiting for the classic lines.
These four discs contain 24 episodes (in fact its 25 as you can watch two different versions of The Handicap Spot with the original actor who played George's Dad or with Mr Stiller instead). As well there are also deleted scenes which never made it to air and you learn stuff such as the girl covering George's head with oil in The Old Man could actually speak English. There's audio commentary and interviews with the writers, producers and cast and the TV commercials shown on American TV during the Olympics and when the show was put in the timeslot behind Cheers which is great for those of us in countries who didn't see them.
It may also interest you to know if you have a multizone DVD player or one that can play PAL (European, UK Australian, New Zealand etc) format DVD's that the gift set sold in America with the first three seasons comes instead with the fourth in these countries. The playing cards, script, Monk's diner ketchup and mustard bottles granted aren't of the greatest quality but they are a nice bonus, make an excellent gift and you can use the box they come in to store all the seasons released so far in as they all fit nicely with room left over. In the gift box set or on its own the 4th season of Seinfeld is a must own DVD.
Rating: - Seinfeld Season 4
I Believe Seinfeld is the greatest sitcom ever to air on television. Not only is Seinfeld a great show, season four was their breakthrough season. It has many of my favorite episodes along with the episode, "The Contest", which won an Emmy. All in all, Seinfeld season 4 is a great collection of some of the funniest episodes ever created.
