Rating: - Sienfeld Season 8
This was one of the funniest seasons but than again they are all very funny. The shipping was so fast I couldn't believe it
Rating: - MY 2 CENTS - REAL HIT AND MISS
Don't want to reiterate all the past comments - just want to say that this season is real hit and miss. The characters did become, just characters. The rhythm and pacing of the show changed drastically with Larry David's departure.
You'll probably sit through the first disc with a smirk on your face, but few season 3-7 type laughs. Even the audience laughter on this season is canned. A REALLY bad sign. Even Kramer's entrances seem forced.
Look, ya gotta see it. And if you already own Seasons 1-7, you have to own it. But Jerry and the gang were already past their creative peak.
Jerry knew it too. He tried it for one more year - but even he couldn't bring himself to round it off with a Tenth Season.
The magic was beginning to go. Fortunately, enough remained to make it through Season 8. You will too.
Rating: - As humorous as any other season
Many reviewers downgrade this season, for a variety of reasons: Larry David's absence; the over-the-top nature of many of the episodes as well as the seeming obsession with having as many individual plot strands per episode as possible; the too-self-aware-for-its-own-good nature of the show at this point in its history. While these are all valid points, nonetheless, having watched this season recently, it made me laugh as much as any other. Maybe we're in danger of focussing on the trees and missing the forest - despite all the negatives, Seinfeld remained, and still remains, absolutely hilarious. How many other shows from the 90s bear rewatching now, and manage to retain the charm and humour they had at the time? Very few, it seems to me. There is a timelessness in this show that makes it a gem. Highly recommended.
Rating: - As Good As Ever
As usual, this DVD is wonderful. I so enjoy watching every show over and over again. I am still missing the show, but all of the DVD's keep me entertained. If a I am having a bad day I just pop one of these in and I am feeling much better again. A great investment in my future well being. You will not be disappointed....Enjoy!!
Rating: - Bad DVD transfers, but funny material
The marketing for this season is a bit disingenuous when it says "SEINFELD has never looked this good! Every episode has been remastered in high definition for the best possible picture and sound quality."
I guess the studio lost the original film, because this season is an interlaced 29.97 frame video transfer. In other words, it's going to look like crap with "jaggies" if you watch it on a PC or TV that can't handle interlaced content well (many modern HD TVs unfortunately).
All other Seinfeld seasons are progressive 24 frame film transfers which look great on any PC or TV.
It's certainly not my favorite season as there are few truly memorable episodes. However, it has my second favorite episode of the series -- "The Susie." Most people I know don't care for that one much because nothing happens, nothing is resolved. I think it's great, especially the thought that Peterman and Jerry went with the same woman (Susie, duh!) Oh and Jerry killing someone... gotta love it!
