We used to be able to buy them in our rural town but now have to mail order them. The Alka-Mints works so much better than anything else--and they don't have a bad taste at all. Rating: - Fantastic product -- but no stores carry it! I've been using Alka-Mints for many years and consider them by FAR the best antacid on the planet -- super-effective -- fast-acting -- non-chalky -- and a really nice spearmint flavor... But guess what? You can't buy them in any drug store or grocery store -- or anywhere anymore! Why? Because Bayer, the parent company, has been letting them die a slow death. They haven't promoted Alka-Mints for years, and so no stores stock the product. I used to be able to order them through Longs, but the last time I tried, they said they were no longer available. It's really a shame the Bayer product managers for this product were such idiots. If the Tums people are smart they should figure out the Alka-Mints formula (or buy it!) and put it out as a new generation of Tums. At least Tums knows how to get product onto store shelves! Rating: - Minty, not chalky I've used Alka-Mints for heartburn a few times, with fast relief and pleasant memories of the taste. In fact, I just chewed one of these in preparation for writing my review. I've got a minty taste in my mouth and have the added satisfaction of knowing that I just increased my calcium consumption for the day. Alka-Mints are a triple hit: - breath mint - nutrient supplement (cheaper than many standard calcium pills) - and antacid, too What's not to like? Rating: - An action packed adventure in your bowels! At first, I was apprehensive about delving into this, but as dinner's Fiesta Platter decided to rear its ugly head, I trudged onward. The taste of most antacids could be described as chalky and, in a word, PLEH. Not so with Alka-mints. I found them to be quite pleasing and I would definitely recommend these to anyone with a taste for not feeling like you've been punched in the gut by Mike Tyson on a bender.
