Blog Spam Database reaches 700 domains

Wow. The database now contains 700 spam domains, in addition to the default list that comes with MT-Blacklist (compared to the default list when the database was started, there may be some duplicates now).

In addition to the existing text file formats, I have thought about other formats, such as RSS feeds for spam domains. If anyone is interested, or has any other suggestions, please let me know.

197 new domains added

I just received some blog spam via email because I was subscribed to this entry at Girlie's Tips and Tricks. The spam comment contained 197 domains. To make sure I had these domains on my blacklist, I intentionally spammed my own blog! None of them were on my list! Never have I been so happy to get spammed - my blacklist is now 197 entries stronger. :-)

I have also added them to the database. The domains are:!

MT Blacklist 1.5 Released

Version 1.5 of MT Blacklist has been released. This version includes new features and is much faster than the previous version. You can even "search and de-spam" all of the entries on your blogs on your MT installation at the same time! I haven't installed it yet but I will later today...

Introducing the Blog Spam Database

Welcome to the Blog Spam Database. The purpose of this site is to serve as a collaboration space for sharing information about known sources of blog comment spam. There are currently three categories of blog spam tracked on this site:

Spam Domains - known domains that spammers will attempt to link to.
Spam Phrases - known phrases used by spammers.
Spam IPs - known IP addresses used to post blog spam.

Spam Domains and Spam Phrases can be blocked using a new MT plugin called MT-Blacklist, created by Jay Allen. The Spam Domains and Spam Phrases databases on this site can be exported in a text format, suitable for importing into MT-Blacklist.

This site will only be successful if we all share information about blog comment spam sources. Use the button in each section to help build the database. I would like to add a bulk import tool that could be used to import mutliple domains at once (such as the blacklist.txt file created by MT-Blacklist) - but I am not sure that my limited Perl skills are up to the task - any help is appreciated.

I am interested in any and all feedback or suggestions regarding the Blog Spam Database. Please post your comments in the discussion for this entry. Thanks.
