Off to New York

I am heading off to New York city for a few days for my sister's graduation, so I may not get much chance to blog. However, after reading Doc's wi-fi reports over the past few days, I have decided to bring the laptop -- maybe I'll blog from the park.

Turning a forum into a blog

I have been talking recently about making blog comments more like conversations, more like discussion forums. Well, today I met someone who has taken the reverse approach by using forum software to publish a blog. Rainer Brockerhoff started with a copy of phpBB and modified it, adding features like Trackback support and RSS feeds. You can read more about the design of the site here. I think think it is a very interesting approach to conversational blogging.

Aside: Among other things on Rainer's blog, I found a Portugese translation of "World of Ends" by David Weinberger and Doc Searls. Cool.

By the way, guess how I found Rainer's blog? Not via Google. Not via referrer logs. No, not even via Technorati. I met Rainer on GlobeAlive, the search engine that returns real people as search results. Rainer had just signed up as a participant on GlobeAlive and was testing the GlobeAlive chat application. Way cool.
